6/21: The bulbs on the right need replacing, but you get the gist. That’s City Hall!6/20: Last dinner in Sarajevo! Back to Croatia tomorrow for a couple nights in Zagreb, then wrapping up this Balkan tour in Slovenia 6/19: Taking in the gorgeous architecture of the Ottoman style City Hall6/18: Another visit to the bobsled track, this time as part of a greater siege tour. I picked the right shirt for the occasion!6/17: In front of the famous Sebilj Fountain, built in 1753. One of my favorite things about this region is the freely flowing access to potable water. This is also the location of “pigeon square,” which I am less excited about..6/15: Cats everywhere in Sarajevo! Particularly black and white cats. Little Zeldas, I call them, after a friend’s cat who looks identical. 6/15: Caught a free performance of the Sarajevo Symphony, which was capped off with a bunch of really fun smoke bubbles6/14: You’d be forgiven for thinking I was sitting in a piazza in Italy. The big difference here is that this meal cost 18BAM (~9 USD)6/13: the street corner where Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated in “the shot heard round the world,” kicking off WWI6/12: Got to explore the old bobsled track from the 1984 Olympic Games! Took the cable car up to the highest point in the city, for amazing panoramic views.6/11: Catching the full moon on the Eid weekend. I have SO enjoyed hearing the call to prayer echo throughout the city again.6/10: In Sarajevo, the buildings are still marked by the scars of war, but in many cases they are still occupied6/9: Sarajevo was influenced by both the Ottoman and Austria-Hungarian Empires, and the transition between the two styles is very abrupt. The backgrounds of each of these photos encapsulate each style.6/8: Was able to beat the crowds for a final *influencer* shot before catching the bus to Sarajevo. Fun fact, Mostar is the second sunniest city in the world, and the Neretva River is the second coldest in the world!6/7: I have so many thoughts about the siege of Mostar, Sarajevo, the genocide in Sbrenica, and horrific war crimes throughout the region. While I continue to process everything I’m taking in, but I found it very disconcerting that completely bombed out buildings remain in the middle of city blocks6/6: I have some of these glass lamps from the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, and was tempted to get more, but I kept my wallet in my purse!6/5: The barbed wire was in the way, but I realize it’s actually quite symbolic of the tragic history of Mostar6/4: Gotta get those photos in bright and early before the bridge fills up!6/3: Found a cute coffee shop my first day in Mostar, Bosnia Herzegovina 6/2: Exploring Dubrovnik one last time6/1: The final sunset of my island life (for now)5/31: The penultimate walk around the island 😦5/30: Soaking up the views one last time5/29: Pointing to the bay with the sandy beach in the below photos5/28: Not gonna lie, I did enjoy the beach. bar on the neighboring island5/27: An old fort – that has been used for every war since it was built a zillion years ago (stick with me for more vague history)5/26: Saying my farewells to the island5/25: The absurdly small lighthouse5/24: Another day, another sunset5/23: I wanted to take a picture to show how terrible some of these hills can be but then immediately regretted the fact that I now had to walk up said hill twice 😭5/22: Found a part of the island I hadn’t been to yet!5/21: Some windy weather rolled in today5/20: crazy wind this weekend that agitated the normally calm waters in the bay. Notice how crystal clear everything in the background is. Apparently that has to do with the type of wind and the direction it’s coming from. That’s about the extent of my understanding of the explanation. 5/19: Looking at the cliffs I took the prior photo from. The two points look far, but it’s only about 10 minutes between them (at a Hannah pace)5/18: Not thriving with the selfie stick5/17: I appreciate that I have about a 1% chance of running into another person on my walks, so I can be silly and take a million pictures without feeling self conscious 5/16: the view of the island from the departing ferry. I grocery shopped midday like a chump!5/15: This view never gets old!5/14: Complimented a neighbor’s artichokes in her garden and was gifted a handful!5/13: The most dramatic change in the 5 weeks I’ve been here is all of the wildflowers that have appeared seemingly overnight5/12: More from my “goofing around the highest point on the island” series5/11: The car ferry gets me back to the island an hour sooner on M/W/F, so I time my grocery shopping trips accordingly!5/10: I love the light/dark balance in this one5/9: I attended a remote job fair today. It was definitely #toosoon and I had to force myself to walk off the miasma of depression that threatened to consume the rest of my evening 5/8: Everyday is officially a swim day now! Still very cold, but warm enough to dry off in the sun quickly. 5/7: For every great pic I have about 25 of me one misstep from plummeting to my death. Worth it!5/6: Just beat the storm home5/5: Had a lot of fun goofing around with my tripod at the highest point of the island (the place I thought I was walking to for my sunrise mishap)5/4: I could publish an entire book titled “Kolocep Sunsets”5/4: Italy is over there somewhere5/3: Today’s garden harvest = breakfast!!5/2: First evening swim!! Still a bit of a cold plunge, but so incredibly refreshing!5/1: It’s a proven fact that the sun can’t set until you’ve taken at least 5 pictures of it 🙂5/1: attempting to take better solo pics! Except I have “resting hiking face” 😬5/1: My current favorite island walk includes forest, sea and village views4/30: couldn’t sleep, so decided to catch the sunrise. Went to the wrong place, but made it work ☀️4/29: the back area of the ferry where everyone dumps their grocery carts
